The purpose of this poem is to show the effects of pink slips and firing teachers on the learning experience of youth.
• What did you do well in the essay? What could you improve upon in the essay?
I thought I rhymed very well and kept on topic, but I wish my poem had more flow to it.
• Which part of the essay was easiest to write? Which was most difficult?
The easiest part of the essay was the concluding stanza, it just came to me quickly.
The most difficult part of this essay was beginning. I could not think of a good clincher.
• What sentence or paragraph do you think is most effective and why? What sentence do you find the least effective and why?
The last stanza, specifically the line that says, “Because right now that little boy feels betrayed”. THat little boy was me, and it just shows how i felt betrayed by the school district because they took away my chance to succeed in history.
• Did you write the paper all at once or did it come together in pieces?
The poem came together in a lot of pieces, I rewrote it at least 3 times.
• What would you like the reader to look for?
I would like the reader to look for how the boy is affected by the “old hag” and how things had changed once the new teacher had come in.
• Who is your audience and why?
My audience is all of those affected by pink slips and also those who write pink slips. I want people to realize that it’s not just the teacher who gets fired that is affected, it’s the students too.
