- As social media has become more and more prominent through our generation, I have realized that esteem has negatively influenced myself and many others. When I log onto my social media accounts I immediately see the highlights of other peoples lives. When I see these photos, my self-esteem plummets because I compare myself and my life to theirs and always think that I am coming up short to the perfect life. I believe that social media is a great aspect to life because you can share your life with your friends and family all around the world, but I also think that our society puts too much of an emphasize on social media and in return harming others self-esteem.
- Is there a certain social media outlet that effects esteem more than others?

1.) The hierarchical need that I believe is most prevalent in social media would have to be safety. In our day and age the internet is used way more than it ever has been before. With that comes a lot more users, both good and bad. Now this can be a bad thing because this means that people could see stuff that you or your friends have posted about you whenever they wan't. When something goes on the internet it virtually never ever goes away, it is on the internet forever. I have seen this affect people negatively when they are applying for jobs and the employer does a background check and finds negative photos of you. This will most likely lead to you not getting the job, which is what happened to one of my family friends.
2.) Do you believe that there could be another piece of the Mazlow's Hierarchical Needs that's missing? -Joshua Bradley 1) I have seen over time that many people use social media to fill their need for love. Especially on sites like twitter and Instagram, I will see people posting pictures of themselves in a way that fishes for compliments. I feel like this has greatly affected how we see ourselves and others and the authenticity of people.
