The first reason the cold sucks so much is obvious: it’s just uncomfortable. Every morning I have to get up for class at the exact opposite end of campus, and walking outside and immediately freezing from head to toe when I have a long twelve-minute walk ahead of me is just not fun. I personally do not enjoy the cold at all.
The second reason is that cold weather basically sets your body up to get sick. Since it has gotten colder here, I have been sick not once, but TWICE. Yes, twice within the span of maybe a month and a half? Getting sick in college is not fun, especially since you still have to go to class. And when you are sick and have to walk to class IN THE COLD… There’s just no getting better from there.
Third, the lack of UV light in the winter causes Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I personally know a few people who have concluded with therapists that they have this disorder, and personally, I think I may have it as well. The first month or two of school, while it was warm and sunny, I was happy and social all the time, and now, when I’m not in class (and even when I am), I just want to curl up in bed and go to sleep.
Finally, the cold is dangerous! After experiencing the wind storm that injured (and even killed) numerous people in Spokane, I know that weather here isn’t something to joke about. On a smaller scale, the ground is always icy and slippery, and I have seen too many embarrassing falls to count!
For these reasons, I believe that the cold weather here has far more downsides than upsides, and I just do not like it! This belief is classified as a “considered opinion,” because it results from firsthand experience. I used all personal experiences to support my opinion, with supplemental experiences of others that I have witnessed.
