It took me quite a while to get the hang of blog posts. I didn’t fully understand exactly how to deliver my message in an effective and concise way. My first few blog posts were kind of rough because I didn’t understand how to organize them appropriately. In high school, it was so much easier to organize our pieces of writing because we always followed the same five paragraph formula, but this kind of writing set me back because it was difficult for me to figure out how to go about composing it. I definitely could have done better on the first few blogs, especially Blog 3. It’s two-page paragraph makes me cringe.
Once I went to Kate’s office hours and learned that my organization, or lack thereof, was taking away from what I was communicating in the posts, it was easier to understand what I was doing wrong and how I could fix it. Ever since I learned how to structure my paragraphs with purpose, composing blog posts has been much easier and I feel like my writing has been able to flow more. I’m secure in the way my last few blog posts, specifically Blog 5 and 6, have turned out, and now I finally feel like I am starting to grasp the Art of the Blog.
I admire Frances’ writing a lot, not only because of her funny and clever titles, but also in the way her voice shines through in her words. I find that my voice tends to be much more formal in my writing than in person, and I appreciate that Frances’ voice flows effortlessly into her blogs. I hope that I can become more comfortable in that area of writing and have my voice be as present as hers!
