Dear Power of Advertising Group,
You should write about the need for men’s positive self-esteem campaigns in the form of an advertisement, because I, as part of your audience found this compelling because of the ethical issues in advertising today. I also think it would be so cool to do this unessay in the form of an advertisement because it parallels the theme, adding an ironic touch.
What I got most from your presentation was the idea that advertisements geared towards men are derogatory and place men in a box with the expectation that they are muscular and attractive. The concept of advertising clothing for “curvy,” and skincare products for “anti-aging” are not foreign in the world of marketing for women. However, in the male world, expressing sensitivity to men who are not the perfect fit is seen as less “manly,” and therefore does not ever happen. I would love to see an unessay in the form of a magazine/newspaper/radio advertisement talking about why there are no positive self-esteem campaigns or even just products in general suited for men who do not have the exact ideal look, and I’m sure the guys that fit this category would too.
