One important piece of information I failed to mention about myself on the last blog post was that I love video games. Well, to be more specific, I am a very picky gamer. I usually only play titles I am familiar with, and I refuse to ever play an ‘X- box.’ Some of my favorite series or titles that I still enjoy playing are ‘Fire Emblem,’ ‘Pokémon,’ ‘Super Smash,’ and my personal favorite ‘League of Legends.’ But I can still remember when I absolutely hated League. There was just something off with the terrible graphics that looked like someone had just copy and pasted real-life photos of their champions, or playable characters, and called it good. I remember thinking my older brother, David, was crazy for playing such an ugly game. I was too ignorant and stubborn to look past the surface and discover the greatness ‘League’ held. Two years had passed since I saw my brother playing ‘League’ on a library computer, and finally a friend of our family gave us a computer which could play ‘League’ on the minimal quality settings. Add that to our terrible dial-up internet, and we are talking about the worst online gaming experience. I still decided to give this game a try, so I created an account. My first experience was absolutely terrible. I misspelled my summoner’s name (account name), I didn’t know any of the controls, my score was embarrassingly bad, but my team ultimately pulled through and I won my first match. From that first match I knew this would be a game I would enjoy for years to come. Of course ‘League’ has its downsides such as a reputation for creating unbalanced champions, terrible severs, and a community full of toxic players, but I try not to let those negatives ruin my positive experience with League of Legends. Thankfully I was able to overcome my childish nature and discover something that I will cherish for many more years. Thanks for reading, and for any fellow summoners out there reading add me at Abe Deserves Ham.
