Dearest 12:00 English Comp,
Remember on the first day, when we played the name game in which we all brought a food (or other random item...) of the same first letter as our name "to the picnic"? Well let's just say, we all brought a LOT more than that! I want to start out by sincerely thanking you for making this class such a wonderful experience for me and for each other. Not only did we share some great laughs, but we learned a lot from each other in such an intellectual and thoughtful environment, and I am so appreciative of that.
The first thing I learned from this class is to not be afraid to share my thoughts, because no one will judge me for them. Our discussions and activities that required us to give opinions, such as the Agree/Disagree game, allowed me to feel comfortable and even confident while sharing my ideas. You all were so open to other opinions and always tried to build off of each other’s and it was just the coolest environment to be a part of!
The next thing I learned was from small group work. Through my work with my forum, I learned how to focus a group project’s research towards a goal, not just to put a bunch of information together to read to people. Through the forum process, my group learned how to focus our topic and how to make our research truly mean something and work towards our conclusion with purpose. I know that this skill will definitely help me in many classes and projects to come, and even in my career beyond.
The last thing that I want to touch on is the sharing of ideas and writing styles through blog posts. After completing my blog posts, I always went in and read other people’s and they were always fascinating and fun to read. I got a really good sense of different tones and styles of writing that I started to pull ideas from and incorporate into my own writing a little bit throughout the semester!
Overall, English Composition 101 has been my favorite English class I have ever taken, and the people in the class are a huge part of what made it so for me. I loved being surrounded by such intellectual and wonderful people, and I just wish it didn’t have to end so soon! Thank you Peter Pickles, Sandwich Sammy, Boxes Braeden, Juice Jesus, Jell-O Jack, (Cocaine) Ckyrro, Zesty Chicken Zach, and all the other names that are now lost to my memory.
Much love to you all and good luck in the future,
Frances with the Fruit
