As we come to conclude our freshman year together, I look back on all the memories that have been made and all the stories that have come to be. From our very first weekend, it has been an unparalleled experience being a zag. No college community, or any community, can quite replicate the unique atmosphere found on this campus, nor can it foster such a family among classmates. We are in our last few days, and soon many of us will be back on campus in new dorms, suites, or apartments. Wherever we go and whatever changes, one thing remains constant, and that is the community found on this campus.
One aspect of this community I've found to be particularly unique is how in a classroom, students are often excited to enter discussion, ask questions, and debate beliefs and opinions on pressing issues. This classroom experience is especially true in our 1:10 English class, and from day one, lively debate and discussion has been a pivotal aspect of our class. Through this, I have learned much about myself, about others, and about writing.
So thank you, for engaging in this class and being open to new ways of thinking in regards to world issues and writing styles. All of you have written and put together strong pieces over this semester, and I've enjoyed getting a glimpse into the different aspects of your writing styles. Thank you especially to my forum group. You guys kicked ass putting together our presentation, and we all worked as a team over a topic we all hold true to our hearts: sports. I had a great time in this class, and hope to find communities similar to this one in other classes over the next few years.
Sincerely
John Hatton
