There are many conventions necessary for a newspaper article. The first one is a catchy headline to grab the attention of the audience. If the headline is boring, it is less likely for people to read the article. Articles can also include subhead line which provide the reader more insight about the article. After the headlines the article will have a lead. The lead is the first paragraph of the article and has the five W’s. The five W’s are who, what, when, where and why. The lead is another way to keep the attention of the audience. As humans we have are impatience and want to know the information about something right away; the lead provides this information. Typically, all paragraphs in the articles will be short to give information in a clear and concise manner. For articles it is all about providing information and offering some analysis.
There are necessary and unnecessary conventions for newspaper articles. While you only need the necessary conventions, the unnecessary conventions add more support for the article. Visuals such has pictures and charts are always powerful in writing. They allow for more visual people to take in the information. Another unnecessary convention is the use of direct and indirect quotes from witnesses, experts and any other relatable sources. By adding quotes content on the article is better researched, and better supported.
Newspaper articles hold power that other genres do not have. They target the general public as their audience. With such a large audience my ideas and opinions can be expressed to many people. An unessay is supposed to be argumentative and a newspaper articles are typically argumentative. It will be an excellent genre to work in because of the way newspaper articles influence the way people think about certain things.
