Assuming you guys don't agree with me on the matter, when do you think the American Dream "died" and why did it happen? Also, who/what decides what the American Dream is at any given time?

I think it's somewhat fallacious to say that the American Dream has gone away, in the sense that I don't think it's ever been real. There's never been anything particularly amazing about this country that made it so anybody could be anything they wanted more true here than somewhere else. A few strokes of luck and some prudent, often moderate decisions led this country, or at least its elite, to extreme wealth and power. A relatively natural progression from wealth and power is corruption and propaganda, so as to attain more wealth and power, and so far as I've seen when looking at it, the American dream has never been anything more than just that, pure propaganda aimed at giving the workers, settlers, indentured servants, etc. just enough hope that they will break their back trying to reach it, but never enough for them to step out of line and try to steal it, whatever that "it" that the American Dream describes may be.
