The blog that gave me the most ideas on how to improve my own writing was titled, Carrying My Own Weight. I really enjoyed this blog and found myself wanting to keep reading for two main reasons. First, the author began with an anecdote of the girl she was interviewing. Right away, my mind was able to create a picture in which I could imagine the girl backpacking through nature. This visual made me interested in the underlying purpose of the story. Along with this, the topic of body image and struggling in school is easily relatable for a lot of people. I found myself, in multiple parts of the post, relating exactly to how the interviewee was feeling and what she was experiencing. Instead of simply telling a story step by step, in my future blog posts I’m going to use more creative writing to create a visual for readers as well as keep my stories and topics relatable to a broad audience. Since the website is open to the public, we have to keep in mind that our stories should reach out to people of all different backgrounds and with very different interests. My goal for my future writing is to attract a larger amount of readers by making the first few sentences of my pieces extremely engaging.
