I would consider my social media usage and presence to be pretty minimal. I do use Instagram and Snapchat but I tend to use them to see what other people are doing rather than posting or sharing what I am doing. I love to see what my friends from home are doing at their new homes in college and to check in with family to let them know how I am doing. In our generation, our lives revolve around our phones and social media. It has become the go to method of communication and interaction. I do think that it is a convenient and handy way to express yourself and talk to people, but it has become something that comes before face to face communication. As a result, there is a sort of pressure to keep up with social media and to compete for popularity. I find that this aspect of social media distracts from the original intention and the more fun and personal aspect of it. I think that things like Instagram should be used purely to express who you are and share things about ourselves that allow people to see the real you, with little to no regard for how many likes it may get or how many followers it might get you.
I, personally, use things like Instagram to follow classmates and friends. However, I follow a lot of cars pages and outdoorsy nature pages. These are things that spark my interest and remind me of the things I love to do. So I think that of someone were to go and see who and what I follow they would see that it consists of things that do encapsulate who I am and what I love. As far as Snapchat, I tend to use it in the same way. I follow people who I want to keep up with and don't really pay attention to how many people add me or how many people I add. So, with all of that said, I think that my digital persona is one that accurately portrays my authentic self in a way that I am happy with.
