I really enjoyed spending thirty minutes during class to read and analyze my peer’s blog posts. I found that I learned a lot about my classmates while reading their blog posts in class – their style of writing as well as parts of their personalities. When asked to determine what was worth reading and why, I found that I was more interested in posts that had a unique view/way of thinking and were very passionate about the topics being discussed. I liked it when someone brought up something that I had never thought of as it would spark my interest more, for example Bill Goodwin’s blog post titled “Unbalanced” when he brought up the fact that individuals taking a test assume that there is only one correct answer. I also found that I was more willing to read a blog post if the grammar and vocabulary was well utilized, as it showed the author put effort into their work and was knowledgeable about the topic. I particularly liked “The R Word” because it was a very interesting story on how Matt Friedman’s mind was changed, it really resonated with me because I have had to be more aware of what I say and what others say while working at a summer camp where kids come from different backgrounds. I love his ending sentence “From that day on I realized the importance of words and how much they can affect someone if heard by the wrong ears”. Through this assignment, I was forced to see what I could better about my current writing and what I could include in my future writing. This 30 minute section of time, reminded me that my peers are also reading what I am posting on the internet not just my professor, so my writing should be tailored to their eyes as well.
