- I know that student-athletes are required to keep a certain GPA to allow them to participate in their sport, but do the schools give them extra help or rig their GPA in order to keep the student-athletes eligible?
- If student-athletes were compensated for their participation, would certain players make more than others, or would each player make the same amount?
- If the student-athletes were to receive wages, who would qualify and would every athlete have the chance?
Description:
I thought that the sports group had a great presentation, I really appreciated how they incorporated the class into discussion, rather than simply just tell us the information. I understand both sides to the topic of college student-athletes being paid for their participation in their sport, but I don’t think that college student-athletes should be paid for their contribution. Rather I think that the athletes should be paid though their college tuition scholarship, no matter how large the scholarship is. I think that if the student-athletes are paid it will take away from their education, but also from the general student bodies education and college experience. I think that major college athletic programs should be less revolved around the financial aspect and return to the root of college athletics, to create school spirit and pride for your school.
